Dying to go to Disney
August 9, 2009A design competition should be held to envision a memorial for the 36 some-odd-people who have died as a result of their visit to a Disney theme park (according to my counting of a list from Wikipedia). Of course, dying a Disney is the stuff of urban legend (ie Disney can claim that no one has actually died at Disney because all their deaths were declared elsewhere). And it is probably more accurate to say that in many cases, Disney provides only the inciting incident for those teetering on the edge of life. In others, the death is a result of incredible misconduct on the part of the deceased. There are those freaky gems, where gross negligence on the part of Disney is fully to blame. In any case, a memorial to these unfortunate souls, who met their maker in the Happiest Place On Earth could make for a great design brief.
